GENERAL CONTRACTOR: The Whiting Turner Contracting Company
CLIENT: Poole & Kent Corporation
DESCRIPTION: Kogok performed the fabrication and installation of the HVAC Duct systems for the MGM National Harbor project (Casino, Convention Center, Retail Shops, Restaurants and Back of House). This 1.2 million SF project not only provided challenges with its sheer size and magnitude, but also the tight schedule for completion in support of the facility’s much anticipated opening.
GSF/OSF: 1,200,000 sqaure feet
SPECIAL FEATURES: A major challenge with the successful execution of a project of this size with such a short duration was maintaining high-level quality in our workmanship. This attention to detail and quality helped MGM National Harbor to be awarded the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design® (LEED) Gold certification. This focus on quality also showed its merit in support and acceptance of the commissioning of this facility to the Owner.
This project on any given day had 1500 tradesmen working side by side. This was no easy task given there were over 7500 Request for Information (RFI), over 400 Supplemental Instruction (SI) and over 50 full Revisions to the Contract Documents. The full BIM coordination and ongoing daily communication between trades allowed for the successful prosecution of the work.
As a Merit Shop Contractor, Kogok’s relationship with Prince George’s County Supplier Development & Diversity Division along with being a registered Local Business Enterprise (LBE) and employing a large number of Prince George’s County residents, lead to a waiver of the Project Labor Agreement (PLA) imposed on this project. This allowed us the opportunity to bid the project competitively and win the right to perform the Sheet Metal work on this project.
